I have never tried to convert MKV to RMVB myself. Perhaps you can take a look at this. It might be useful.

try this GOM player can see most of the movieand use format factory to convert any format of video or wma. it can see inside the page!!

you can use vlc to open the mkv file, it can almost open any file as i know.
