The pigment used for the paintings is red ochre, which is clay containing a high concentration of iron oxide. The paintings at Tramping Lake are estimated to be between 1,500 - 3,000 years old. During that time, First Nations peoples designated this area one of their sacred places by painting designs depicting wildlife, people and traditional objects.
