These ice formations were created April 2, 2010 as strong north-easterly winds pushed snow and ice up to Lake Winnipeg's west side at Winnipeg Beach. The ice "mountains" coming within metres of homes and cottages in some areas. In a matter of 10 minutes, ice stretched as long as a kilometer and reached as high as 12 metres. The massive ice formations also blew in along the town's marina and near lakefront homes and cottages in the northern part of the community. According to residents, the last time anything comparable happened was 1966, and homeowners along the lake speculated they might not fully melt until well into summer.
