The Cananea mine is located 25 miles south of the United States border in Sonora, Mexico. The active Colorada $ R7 u! j- J' Q( r# T
Pit in the upper right is 1.6 miles across. It is one of the largest copper producers in the world and also contains

Copper was first mined from this area just south of the mining town of Ajo, Arizona, around 1750. The open-pit mine pictured
