在三百萬年前，因為火山爆發，引致大量的火山灰沉積，又經過了幾百萬年的風化侵蝕及雨水沖刷，軟土泥沙留不住，而玄武岩及石灰岩便挺立而出，構成如今所見到的景致，不但成為土耳其的主要觀光點，其獨特的地貌，更被列入聯合國世界文化遺產。
2 U7 d6 H" c5 d' t  j  D人們總愛將之與雲南的昆明石林相提並論，但在我心中，即使未到此之前，我已對石林不存好感，皆因其不及桂林的靈秀之餘，在大量人工化石的虛假世界，石林的所謂美態，早已喪失殆盡！

Cappadocia, in this sense, was bounded in the south by the chain of the Taurus Mountains that separate it from Cilicia, to the east by the upper Euphrates and the Armenian Highland, to the north by Pontus, and to the west by Lycaonia and eastern Galatia.[1]
