LFC V HAMMERS: STAT ATTACK

Here are all the pre-match stats and facts ahead of Wednesday's trip to West Ham United with LFC statistician Ged Rea.

Head to head: (league games only)

At West Ham: Liverpool 18 wins, West Ham 17 wins, 15 draws.

Their biggest loss was a 7-0 thrashing in September 1930.

Vic Watson is the only West Ham player to score a hat-trick against Liverpool, doing so September 1930 in that 7-0 win.

The last Liverpool player to be dismissed against the Hammers was Luis Garcia in April 2006. Hayden Mullins was also sent off in the game at Upton Park.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last nine games in all competitions, though five have been draws.

West Ham have a better record this season away from home than at Upton Park this season. They have picked up 17 of their 33 points on the road.

The Hammers have won four of their 11 home games in the Premiership this season with three defeats.

They have beaten Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Fulham and most impressively Manchester United. The three visiting sides to leave with all the points were Manchester City, Arsenal and Everton. That defeat to the Merseysiders in December is their only home setback in the last seven league games.

They have not kept a league clean sheet at home since a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough back in September.

The Hammers have conceded four penalties in the league this season and none of them have been scored with Robert Green saving three of them.

They are currently 15 points better off at this stage than they were last season when they fought a relegation rearguard action - only surviving on the last day with a win at Old Trafford.

Left-back George McCartney is the only man to appear in every game of West Ham's season so far while Robert Green and Matthew Upson have also featured in every league match.

Craig Bellamy has been injured since the end of October and may not be fit enough to feature in this fixture. His one season at Anfield saw him score nine goals in 42 appearances.

No matter what the result of this game West Ham will remain in 10th place.

Current League Positions:

Liverpool: Pld 22 Won 10 Drawn 10 Lost 2 Goals for 37 Against 16 Pts 40 Pos: 6th.

West Ham: Pld 22 Won 9 Drawn 6 Lost 7 Goals for 28 Against 21 Pts 33 Pos: 10th.

Scorers (League in brackets):-

Liverpool: Torres 17 (11), Gerrard 15 (7), Benayoun 10 (3), Babel 7 (3), Crouch 7 (1), Kuyt 7 (3), Voronin 4 (3), Hyypia 3 (1), Alonso 2 (2), El Zhar 1 (0), Lucas 1 (0), Sissoko 1 (1), own goals 2 (2).

West Ham: Ashton 6 (5), Cole 5 (3), Bellamy 4 (2), Bowyer 4 (4), Etherington 3 (3), Ferdinand 2 (2), Solano 2 (2), McCartney 1 (1), Noble 1 (1), Parker 1 (1), Upson 1 (1), own goals 4 (3).

Overall: Liverpool 52 wins, West Ham 20 wins, 28 draws.

Liverpool won this fixture last season, coincidentally played on exactly the same date, 2-1. After a goalless first half, Dirk Kuyt opened the scoring just ten seconds in to the second period. Peter Crouch added doubled the lead soon after before Hammers sub Kepa Blanco, making his debut, reduced the arrears 13 minutes from time. It was the 100th league meeting between the sides.

Liverpool have won three of the last eight visits, the last three in fact - a feat they last achieved in January 1973.

The Reds are looking to win four league games in a row at Upton Park for the first time in their history.

The unbeaten run on the ground actually stretches to five games with the wins preceded by two draws.

Liverpool have lost only four of the last 39 league meetings home and away and are unbeaten in the last ten (with eight wins and two draws) since losing 1-0 in November 1999 thanks to a single Trevor Sinclair goal.

A win tonight will give the Reds a seventh successive league victory over the Hammers - an achievement only equalled once before, back in December 1973.

Liverpool have failed to score in only one of the last nine league visits.

Three Liverpool players have scored hat-tricks for Liverpool against the Hammers and all have come at Upton Park - Roger Hunt in 1965, John Toshack (1976) and Michael Robinson (1983).

Dirk Kuyt made his Liverpool debut against West Ham at Anfield in August 2006.

John Arne Riise's first league game for the Reds also came against the Hammers at Anfield in August 2001.

Jamie Carragher made his league debut against the Hammers at home in January 1997 as an 18-year old. He celebrated his 30th birthday last Monday.

Peter Crouch celebrates his 27th birthday on the day of this game. He scored on this ground on his birthday last year. Only Terry McDermott has scored for the club on two of his birthdays.

If selected Crouch will play the 300th game of his club career.

Yossi Benayoun scored eight goals in 72 appearances during his two years with the Hammers. So far with Liverpool he has netted 10 in just 28 games. He has scored four goals in his last two games.

Last Saturday he became the first Liverpool player to score two hat-tricks in a season since Michael Owen in April 2003 to achieve the feat.

A win for the Reds will take them past the 250 points barrier in the Premier League under Rafa Benitez.

Liverpool's biggest wins on this ground came in September 1965 and January 1976 when they won 4-0.
normally, we shld win easily, lets hope better luck this time
