Work out 16-Bit to 8-Bit Data

Dears all,

How can a 16-bit data system reads a 8-bit data? I got a DDC controller with 16-bit addressing register which monitors a 8-bit data system. The data received on the 16-bit data system is much, much and much higher than the actual figure on tht 8-bit data system. What can I do to fix it?
